How to quickly calculate number of geometric isomers of a coordination compound quickly?

I know how to calculate by drawing diagrams but in exams it takes a lot of time.

From what i can remember is , there is no shortcut formula type thing , all you can do is remember the no of G.I in general form like
Mab , M(aa)b etc
Our teacher told us to make a chart and remember it for quick answers in exam
