And we know more p-character more the bond length.

How back bonding will effect S==O. It’s all about between S-Cl bond.

See according to bent’s rule more electronegative element share more p- character and we know more the p-character more the bond length and in this case oxygen is far more electronegative than ch3 but in SOCl2 case Cl also has some electronegative character so p-character distributed between Cl and oxygen
