Okay look. First H+ will attack and c+ will form. C+ can be at the carbon next to O, or the tertiary. At the carbon next to O, carbocation will be resonance stabilized. That's why it attacks there.
ya @Supreeta_Sen thanks that i understood ... but how do we know that oxygen will not give away the lone pair ..forming alcohol and alkane ? or is it a simple question in alkenes , and ii am thinking too much ,lol .
