I'm getting 80 by applying KVL. Net charge on both I'm getting 80.

I don't think you can take them in parallel. they are in series
He just took the voltage drop across them same, so connected them in parallel.( I don't know if this works)

I confirmed this question answer is 40 mu C only. It also comes by equating potentials on the two capacitors.
