Can someone explain the reaction of aluminium chloride with water, I have referred
different books but always find this reaction difficult.

According to resonance

Mainly I have doubt in reaction involving the complex compound.

You will come to know about complexes in Coordination Compound chapter
Alcl3 generally exists as Al2Cl6, hence when it reacts with water it forms [Al(H2O) 6]Cl3
It dimerises as it gains more stability

When you make reaction between AlCl3 with water,
Then you will get a complex given below.
AlCl3 + H20 ----> [Al(H2O)6]Cl3
I hope you will understand.
